The closest thing I've found to real west coast Mexican since I've been down on the gulf coast! I've only ever ordered out from them, but they're always super friendly and the food is always great! Best carne asada tacos around

Stopped in last night with my kids to grab dinner, and it was busy. We sat on the deck after looking inside. The waitress asked if we were sitting outside, and I said YES. We waited for 20 minutes!! And NO One came out to check on us, take drink irder, deliver chips, nothing. My daughter went in and asked for a menu (thinking it would give the girl a hint), sge gave her one, watched her go outside, and still nothing. The waitress came out 3-4x to look at menu board, but never even acknowledged us. Guess they were making too much money inside to bother with the tables outside. Too bad, they have great food, good portions and it was a beautiful night to sit on a patio. We finally left and went to El Saltillo, and had our chips, drinks and food served within 15 minutes. Hit n miss place, don't go if you are in a hurry.

I wanted so badly to love this place as so many people that I know have recommended it. The service was good. The chips and salsa I thought were good as well. But when our meals came, our food was swimming around our plates in a pool of grease. I was really disappointed. They have good prices. And I looked at the specials and were pretty impressed with their daily specials. If I can ever get past my stomach turning from all the grease I will try it again.

Love, Love, Love this place. I was raised on homemade Tamales and I haven't had anything above good since moving here on the coast. The ones here are FABULOUS!!! Reminds me of the ones I'm used to having in New Mexico with my family. Now if I can get them to make a stuffed Sopapilla!!! Oh and don't miss Taco Wednesday!! Better than the other place that has taco Tuesday.

Wednesday is .99 cent taco day. Went yesterday and had four hard chicken tacos. Hands down, probably the best tacos I have ever had, and I have eaten a lot of tacos in my life. I know where I will be next Wednesday. What makes this restaurant so good is everything is always so fresh.

I have eaten at El Nopal three times for lunch with a group of five coworkers. Each time, all of our food has been outstanding. One person in our group used to claim he did not like Mexican food, but be he has returned to El Nopal many times on his own. The food is very fresh and they will easily cater to you if you want something subtracted or added to a dish. The service is great also. Once, we celebrated a lunch birthday there, and (without asking) they brought the birthday person fried ice cream and churros for the rest of the table. On my most recent visit, I saw a sign advertising fish tacos for a future date. The fish tacos were not on the menu but they let me order them any way. They were probably the best fist tacos I have ever had. The fish was perfectly seasoned, grilled tilapia. The tortillas tasted very fresh and homemade. The tacos came with a generous serving of freshly sliced avocado, lettuce, onion and tomato. There was also a side of rice. I normally do not care for rice at Mexican restaurant, but this was the exception. I would have been happy with just a bowl of this rice. It was also perfectly cooked and seasoned. The cherry on top was the "pink" sauce that accompanied the dish. This is now my new favorite Mexican restaurant on the Gulf Coast.

Really good Americanized mexican. Our meals' highlights were the homemade corn tortillas, super - fresh pico and guacamole, hot tortilla chips and the cute little boy who was in charge of delivering chips and salsa. As long as your not expecting San Diego style awesomeness, I think you would be pleased with this cheery little restaurant.

My coworkers and I eat here on a regular basis. We love the food. The tea is great. There are times the service is a bit slow, but to be expected when it's busy. Never disappointed after going here. The cheese dip is good, beans are good....salsa is good. I'm not a cilantro fan so occasionally it has too much for me, but overall good.

Pretty good. Went and ordered a chimichanga, would have been absolutely choice if there wasn't cheese sauce on the top. It cooled faster than everything else, then coagulated, giving a really unpleasant tacky texture to every bite that coated my teeth...made my, what would be, fried, flaky-crunchy tortilla into a soggy mess and got into my rice too. Besides that all the flavors were excellent, best rice I have had since leaving southern California, beans were so good, but didn't get enough. Got steak in my chimichanga, wanted to just hollow out the tortilla of all the meat. So good and was served hot out of the kitchen. Salsa was great, but chips were not fresh, seemed like they were bagged chips, not chips made in the kitchen. Staff was super friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Lime margarita had good flavor and was strong, and they are two-for-one. Whole bill, meal, marg, and unlimited soft drinks was $12. I say pretty affordable. Got there when it was relatively empty, it was quiet, but then a rush of people came in and it got really loud really fast. I would definitely return.

Good food, great prices. Usually order and pick up so I can't really comment on the resturant or service, but it is my go-to for Mexican food

If you want great Mexican food at a inexpensive price. This is the place. The food is very excellent and you get your moneys worth. They do your food the way YOU want it. Large selection of food. Desserts are the bomb. Wait staff is the friendliest people you can find. It is well worth going.

The Décor is Kitchy Mexican and cute/ casual. All in all food is okay... presentation and cooking methods are a bit lacking, although food is seasoned well and traditionally. The food could be amazing, if they did tweaking to their methods. The restaurant could be great... maybe it is the best thing in that city, I do not know, the Hispanic population or how big it is either. Maybe that is what the clientele likes/expects Mexican food to be. Please note, we are from Chicago, with Mexican Food Galore, and half Mexican, except my friend who is Polish.. We went to New Orleans on Vacation, and wanted to see the Gulf and ended up in Long Beach. We were starving and decided on Mexican, so on 12/9/14, my BFF, niece and I ventured into El Nopal. Our order: Garden Salad and Fries; both fresh and tasty. No ketchup was offered though. 2 Steak Tacos/ Order of Rice; the tacos had Cilantro/Onion/Cheese. My rice was amazing, hands down to the chef. It tastes like mine. The tacos were just ok. I would eat it, if I was starving... but not if I had a choice. Tortillas were greasy, the meat was not skirt steak ( maybe they do not have that cut in Mississippi, who knows) at best it tasted like boiled beef and then put on the grill with some seasoning, but was not as crispy. Rice and Chicken Dish, with cheese on top; seriously the plate looked disgusting because they melted the cheese into the rice. Like they literally put rice on the plate, added cheese, then put the grilled chicken on the top and put it in the microwave to melt it. The chicken arrived kind of cold, but was really good. I did taste a bit of the rice with cheese, because I wanted to see why she did not want to eat it. I will give it to her it was greasy, and would have hurt her stomach. My niece thought the rice would be placed neatly on one side and then the chicken would be on the other, with cheese on top of it. Maybe a tortilla or two. I would have thought that as well.... no plate presentation. This cost over 10 dollars..... Not worth the cost with the way they did it. Maybe it is good for a Caucasian palette.... just not for a half Mexican palette. We are just used for the food to be presented traditionally to us. And not a sloppy mess... not even from hole in the wall places, we have been too. Our waiter a male, was super polite, came to our table 3 times, and was attentive. Although he forgot things like straws and Ketchup.... When he saw my nieces plate, he was like, was everything ok. I just said she doesn't like it.... It just was not what she was expecting. I told him it is fine we will pay for it. He is like you are sure. I am like yes do not worry. Then we get the bill, and could not figure out what the 2.75 twice on the bill was. We were like we will pay the total that is fine, but what is the charge for, because it said Tacos de asada then underneath 3.75, so we were confused. It turns out the tacos were 2.75 each and the queso dip was 3.75.... I told him it is fine, we will pay no worries; we just wanted to know what it was for. He is like no let me see if we can give you a discount. I was like no it is fine, I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity. He was like no I insist we will give you a bit of a discount she didn't eat her food (my niece pushed it around her plate, after a bite). I said if you are sure after he insisted various times. I do not want you to get in trouble. He said no worries. So we are waiting for him to come back, and a lady, thin wavy hair mid 30's/early 40's comes. and rudely said what is wrong with the food. I politely said she did not care for it. The lady was like why? I am just thinking well you wanted to know, so let me tell you...... lol. She thought she was getting rice on one side and chicken on the other, with melted cheese on the chicken. We have never ever seen a restaurant give us rice and melt cheese in it.... It was cold delivered... and I couldn't think of the word in Spanish.. so I said it plainly. The food is greasy....... she just gave me the dirtiest look and took the plate away. Did not even respond... say I am sorry you were not satisfied at all. The gentleman then came I could not remember his name... with my amended bill. They took like 5 dollars off. I even said again are you sure, we did not ask for it, you offered. She looked pretty upset. He was like do not worry about it, I am happy to help etc.... he was a super nice well spoken guy. Needless to say we still tipped him over 20 percent. Not his fault his boss is rude, who can't understand... Mexican Food does not mean greasy or cheese in rice. Ewww.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
